Traditional robotic CNC machine tenders are challenging to integrate into a modern, lean CNC manufacturing operation. They typically require a custom gripper and robot program be developed for each step of the CNC process. For most two operation CNC parts, that’s three different grippers and three different robot programs per part tended.
It’s a daunting and expensive engineering task for a single part, let alone dozens of parts. Setup time between parts is often hours or even days.
The VersaBuilt VBX-160 is an entirely new class of robotic machine tender. We call it Universal Machine Tending.
Introducing the VersaBuilt VBX-160 with MultiGrip soft jaw technology. The VBX-160 requires no custom robot grippers and no robot programming to tend almost any part.
Like ordinary vise soft jaws, MultiGrip soft jaws can easily be machined to hold almost any part. But MultiGrip soft jaws are also engaged by the VBX-160’s robot arm to pick a part from the shelf and transfer the part to the CNC vise for processing. The VBX-160 is completely pre-programmed. A competent machinist can configure and setup a new part for tending within the first day of use. A VBX-160 is easily configured to run dozens of different parts. Typical job setup times are less than 15 minutes; including the time it takes to load the VBX-160 full of parts.
The VersaBuilt VBX-160 will machine parts through one, two or even three operations without operator intervention. The VBX-160 will optionally rinse and blow-off excess coolant and chips from a completed part before storing the part. The VBX-160’s flexible shelf infeed system can store and process up to 52 8.5” wide parts or as many as 250 2” wide parts in a single load.
The VBX-160 is fast. Typical load/flip/transfer/unload cycle time for a two operation part is about 30 seconds.
The VBX-160 integrates easily with almost any CNC machine. All communications and control signals pass through the CNC’s serial port. All system components are pre-engineered, tested and warranted by VersaBuilt.
